I was sad to see the RECording end after 20 minutes but can't complain too much when the result was such an effortlessly enjoyable blend of horror, laughs and (genuinely moving) romance.
That the REC mythology was still incorporated topped it off.
A relatively unsatisfying hodge-podge of ideas that conflict too much against each other. Needed to decide whether it wanted to be an Evil Dead 2/Braindead or tense and scary. Tried to keep the latter tone and fit the rest in. Didn't quite work. Still had moments that were brilliant.
Sells out the [REC] franchise to derivative silliness. Not the worst film of the day though - that dishonour went to Nightbreed.

Works really well, and genuinely romantic. I like the idea of doing the whole Rec thing from different angles, and in different genres.
ReplyDeleteThe director's married to the lead actress, and is clearly batting above his average.
Genuinely moving?! Genuinely romantic?! I must have watched a different film to the rest of you..
