(Frightfest Day 4)
An admirable whir of dread that never quite becomes as unhinged as it needs to. Does have the scariest vegetables i've seen in a while though.
Seems like the director was too busy creating atmosphere and paying homage to remember little things like a story. On the basis of expectation, probably my biggest disappointment of FF 2012.
Atmosphere builds from the film being made into the film you are watching as Toby Jones psychologically falls apart while nothing much happens. Brilliant.
I should also point out that I watched a copy of this without subtitles (as I was unaware half the movie was in Italian). While this may seem a mistake I'm not sure it was. It added to nightmarish unreality of it all.
Looked and sounded great (as it passed by way over my head.)

ReplyDeleteReally did enjoy it, but a lot more oblique and low key than I was expecting. #notreallygiallo
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing it again.
