(Frightfest Day 5)
A bunch of cool things (Lovecraft, sixties counter culture, people with weird faces appearing suddenly and without warning) fail to gel together. Also shout out to the worst post 3D conversion I've ever seen at the start, made people's heads look way freakier than anything else in the movie.
Compelling ideas and devices scattered randomly into a hodge-podge of a movie where even the actors don't feel like they know which movie it is they should be in.
ReplyDeleteWhy was it shot as found footage when it wasn't? Why did people who didn't take the drug still get chased? Why did it matter that fake hunter had been part of the MK ultra program? Why did I put on the 3d glasses for this shit?
ReplyDeleteSome neat ideas around MK Ultra, DMT and Numbers Stations are wasted in an unfocused mess, centred around an unconvincing lead and her unlikely alliance with a Hunter S Thompson impersonator.
