Hostile

(Frightfest Day 5)
A film made by a fourteen year old boy who clearly enjoyed The Last Exorcism, amongst many others. His emulation of Found Footage tropes is remarkably assured and he's certainly mastered the mechanics of the jump scare but at the end of the day this is distinctly a film made by a fourteen year old. I look forward to following a career that if he continues into his old age, I probably won't get to see the end of.

  1. That such a young director can commander the palette of horror to so capably paint by numbers is no small achievement. Let's hope he goes on to find his voice and paint a masterpiece.

  2. Not a good film by any stretch of the imagination but it would be churlish to be too critical given the age of the director and what was obviously a minuscule budget.

An amalgam of about a dozen other films, without an original idea in sight, but showing a good grasp of the visual language of the genre.
