The Tall Man [The Secret]

Laugier once again displays astounding skill in manipulating both audience expectations and assumptions. Absolute magnificence.

  1. It was alright, but several leagues away from magnificence

  2. Best of the frightfest night, but didn't blow me away. Liked it a lot better than Martyrs though.

  3. Huh. It's not even close to Martyrs. It was probably the best the all-nighter had to offer, but on reflection, it does have at it its heart the somewhat bourgeois and presumptuous notion that all kids from poor families are in need of salvation. Even if it doesn't come to that conclusion, it feels the question is worth asking. That aside though, it works really well as a genre-defying puzzle piece - keeps you guessing right till the end.

  4. I'd agree Martyrs is the better film, despite my viscerally bad reaction to it. One messed up Frenchman.
