Devil

A whodunit in a different container.
Comfortably the best thing Shyamalan has put his name to in the last eight years, which isn't saying much.

  1. Man this film blows. Still, I did learn how to detect the presence of the devil using only buttered toast

  2. What I don't understand is why y'all keep watching Shyamalan movies when he consistently puts out shit. Why keep giving him the benefit of the doubt?

  3. He didn't direct this, only came up with the story which is why his name is on it.

  4. Ah OK, fair cop. Still, I think after The Happening, I'm ready to shun anything in any way linked to Shyamalan, but perhaps I'm being a little harsh there.

  5. Simple reason I watched it was cineworld card. Still regretted it. I still have hope M has another good movie in him. I'm one of the few who really rates signs and the village. Lady in the water though. Jesus.

  6. Maybe I should get a Cineworld card - I'm getting sick and tired of Lovefilm. Seems like every other disc those bastards send is unplayable - only you don't find out till you're halfway through the movie and it just freezes. Happened again tonight :-(

  7. Signs is awesome up to and including the flight to the basement. It's just the last 15 minutes when they come out and an alien is wandering around that is awful. The Village was alright, but the twist was too obvious and the explaination of the monster in the woods was pretty lame. From that point on he's made nothing short of appalling films.

If you don't watch a broad spectrum of films you don't get full perspective of quality. For example, if you only watch films that get consistently good reviews from critical quarters you generally respect then the worst of those good films will seem like a bad film because you have no bad film to put it in context.

  8. Yes, but you don't deliberately set out to watch bad films - it will happen anyway. I'm quite sure that if I never see another Shyamalan film, I will still see plenty of bad films to counterbalance the good ones.

I just don't see the point of watching something by someone who has consistently proven himself to be a piss artist when there are so many other filmmakers out there, whose films I might never get the chance to see because I'm too busy watching films that have a 90% chance of being total arse.

  9. The thing with shamalamadingdong is most of his films look like they have the potential to be good and he has proven he can make ace movies so maybe the next one will turn it round.
