The Last King Of Scotland

In this story based on true events nothing McAvoy's character does rings true.
After the film I discovered this is because his character is fictional and the only thing based on true events is Whitaker's superb performance thus rendering the film nothing more than a ropey thriller acting as a platform for some serious scenery chewing.

  1. Went to see a lecture by Kevin Macdonald last year. During filming he was convinced that Whitaker was really shit and dull in the role. He now admits he didn't know anything about acting for movies (he'd only done documentaries before.)

And you've got to have a white guy to identify with in a movie about an African dictator. We can't surely be expected to root for African people! Or, even worse, Ugandan Asians.

  2. I never saw the fuss about this film. It just convinced me James McAvoy is a supremely annoying shit.
