Argento plays safe and dull with his second film, coming off like an extended episode of 'Murder She Wrote' with Jessica Fletcher played by both a handsome, wooden reporter and a blind man with a pet child.
Haven't seen this one yet, probably will though. Argento's one of those directors (up to a certain point in his career) where you wanna check em all. BWTCP was very cool, but still not a patch on Suspiria. That would easily make my top 10 horror films of all time.
I've got the recent giallo with, weirdly, Adrian brody to watch on Netflix. Hard to think it'll be anything other than tired and awful, but I'll give it a chance.
Watching hitchcock's first us film sabotage. Predictably it's great. Don't think I've seen a bad Hitchcock film.
I realise with a touch of sadness that I'm getting to the point where there's not much great Argento left to watch and I'll have to make do with splashing through the puddles of piss that mark out his later career.
Suspiria is definitely top of the Argento pile though. Then Tenebrae. Then Inferno. Then Opera. Then Bird With Crystal Plumage. Then Deep Red. Those are the essentials of what I've seen.
I'll give this one a miss. Still got Suspiria to watch!
ReplyDeleteBird with the Crystal Plumage was nuts, and pretty damn good. Not as good as Tenebrae though.
