The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn [3D]
Grown-up: "Spielberg plays with some new toys creating an unparallelled fluid kineticism whilst also indulging in his obsession with complex match cuts. Unfortunately he seems more concerned with apologising for Indy than making Tintin and despite the obvious technical skill on display the film struggles to grip or excite".
Kid: "Brilliant. Though I did keep thinking 'When is it going to end?'"

Ah, another point to make in my delayed critique of the decline of Hollywood - the length of films. Although I suppose it comes under the heading of 'bad filmmaking'
ReplyDeleteI could write so much about Tintin, but I'll try and keep it brief.
ReplyDeleteDespite it's flaws I absolutely loved it. While I've seen many "better" films this year for sheer enjoyment this is, so far, top of the pile. It captures the adventurous spirit of the Tintin I remember, visually it's astounding, has a constant pace and energy you rarely see which makes it more Indy for a new generation than an apology for Indy 4, it has some of the most imaginative transitions I've ever seen (especially in a staggering flashback sequence midway thru) and there's a motorbike chase sequence towards the end that could well be the coolest thing since lightsabers were last in the cinema. Spielberg's best slice of entertainment since Jurassic Park. Happy, happy, joy, joy!
1:41 - not too long after all, though charlotte's review does suggest pacing concerns. Looking forward to this nonetheless
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeleteThough I also kept wondering - when's it going to end
