Dredd 3D

A perfect example of 'don't fuck with the source material and you will get a great film'. Here the source material is faithfully captured and the film is great.
Also a perfect example of 'if you're going to foist 3D on people then use it to show bullets exploding out of people's faces in extreme slow motion, soundtracked by ethereal post-rock'. Here the 3D is justified by... well, you get the idea.

  1. yeah. THAT'S how you do 3D. And when was the last time you saw a major release action movie rated 18? My jaw dropped at that alone. Very glad to say the rating is deserved.

  2. Spoiler warning...

As a Game of Thrones fan my overall immense satisfaction was capped nicely as Cersei Lannister's face exploded in extreme close up.

Apart from the standout slomo scenes the 3D was irrelevant and the cynic in me wonders if they've solely used it to boost the box office. But the more money it makes the more likely seqeuls and I'd be well up for that.

  3. Ahhh, Mama is the blonde bitch from Game of Thrones? Pretty much unrecognisable. Especially after that fall.

  4. Fairly one dimensional for a 3D film, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Urban nails Dredd and the look and feel of Mega City One is spot on.

  5. Simple, uncomplicated fun that draped its violence in style and never gave in to the temptation to fuck it up by having Dredd turn soft, or smile, or take his helmet off, or do anything other than be hard as nails throughout. Praise be!
