The Hurt Locker

Impeccably crafted meditation on modern warfare.

  1. I think impeccably crafted is right. I would add gritty and intelligent. On reflection though, I think it's also quite a cold, downbeat film that lacks the magic marking out the best war movies I've seen, the likes of Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now.

I was also surprised by the number of actual army folk feeling the need to point out its numerous inaccuracies on IMDB - still, I suspect it would take a lot to satisfy them.

  2. Quite brilliant, tense thriller that benefits from avoiding politics to focus on people. If it hadn't tried to bring in a story in the last half hour it would've verged on a masterpiece.
