    I sat down to try and watch this once and promptly became aware I was entering an incredible abyss of despair and had to stop.

    The bleakest portrait of humanity in which no-one is more implicated than the viewer himself. The unflinching brutality but also its steadfast refusal to entertain makes it all the more dispiriting that it helped pave the way for exploitation and torture porn. On the strength of this, I doubt Pasolini would have been surprised.
