I can see that if you haven't read the book, this would be a difficult film to get through. But then I don't really give a shit, I've read the book, this film is brilliant.
I wouldn't go that far. I enjoyed it but it wasn't good enough to stop the little voices in my head chattering all the way through. I've concluded that a Watchmen movie just didn't need to be made, not because this is a bad movie, but because Watchmen comic is so good. I think i got excited because I associated the greatness of Watchmen with greatness in general, and thought that if I went to see a film adaptation of greatness it might be great. But you can't clone greatness nor can you cover it and expect it to also be great. It was nice to go to the cinema at 4:30pm though and feel like it was a special occasion.
It could have been a great film, but not by being so reverential to the comic. The story and characters are great, the world fascinating, the message universal. But by doing nothing but copy the comic it means the film has no soul of it's own.
Still thoroughly enjoyed it, just don't see the point.

Yes you can. Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower's great. Jimi Hendrix version's better. Fight Club the book's great and so's the movie. There's thousands of examples.
