Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship & Videotape

It doesn't matter how much you try to paint our government's actions of the time with sinister machiavellian overtones the whole fiasco does just boil down to an embarassing mixture of bumbling incompetency and unintelligent self-righteousness, qualities which seem ever present in their treatment of Britain's film industry.
This documentary does, however, remind me how far I have to go to in watching the entire DPP list. Everybody needs an ambition.

  1. Now there's an ambition I can get behind. I'm salivating at the look of some of these

I can heartily recommend The Witch Who Came from the Sea, probably the best of the Video Nasties box sets Bryce got hold of. He also has a massive collection of Jesse Franco's nazi porn.

Loving the Coffin Joe by the way. I may have to invest in a top hat and cape.

  2. The documentary is part of a 3 disc set, the other 2 discs being trailers+introductions for all 72 films on the original DPP section 2 list! It's hog heaven.

With Coffin Joe I found after a few of them I was randomly bellowing 'DE NADA!!' at poor unsuspecting, healthy sane people. True trash gems all round.

  4. Yeah, I have the 2 Box of the Banned DVD sets put out by Anchor Bay. You should be able to get them off play.com for not a lot of loot. All good stuff.

Joe! What did I tell you about telling people about my 'erotica'? On the other hand I shouldn't have got that delivered to the in-law's...
