Shivers [The Parasite Murders/ They Came From Within]

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you can clearly see the wires but it still shits you up, then it is a master at work.

Crimes Of The Future

A greatest hits that references Cronenberg’s entire career from his early beginnings with a film of the same name, through the politicizing of genetic mutation in Scanners, the sexualisation of wounds in Crash, the fleshy technology of Existenz, the constant presence of Viggo Mortenson from History Of Violence onwards, and the insistent recontextualisation of Twilight actors that began in Cosmopolis. It also managed to turn my stomach and I had to get some air half an hour in.

Maps To The Stars

Cronenberg's emotional detachment reduces lurid Hollywood satire down to an unflinching stare into the abyss. One of his finest.

The Dead Zone

Who would've thought that there could be such a perfect intersection between the acting talents of Christopher Walken, the directing talents of David Cronenberg and the writing talents of Stephen King.
Yet here it is.

Cosmopolis

An extremely faithful adaptation of a dialogue heavy, slow-motion existential collapse. Not really sure whether this is a good thing or just heavy, staid and pretentious.

A Dangerous Method

Cronenberg's scalpel precision makes for the most gently spoken, quietly intellectual shitstorm I've ever witnessed.

The Brood

Totally brilliant Cronenberg effort that begins as a vehicle for Oliver Reed to furiously power act at everything and ends with the truly spectacular notion of viscious emotion controlled mutant children produced via some seriously errant psychotherapy.
