The films are less concerned with the act of death and more with the concept this time around. No real stinkers, a lot more stuck at 'quite interesting' and only a handful of real standouts - namely A, B, F, G, V and Z. Particularly Z.

A doomed heroin romance cloaked in vampirism that forced me into a hypnagogic state. Which is a nice way of saying I kept dozing off.

[REC] 4: Apocalypse [[REC] 4: Apocalipsis]

 

A tepid end to the franchise that abandons all the inventive flair built up by previous sequels opting instead for a below average zombie-infection-on-a-boat story with precisely none of the apocalypse promised by the title.

Tusk

Smith continues to flourish in Horror with a wickedly funny piece of absurd nastiness. Probably could've done without Johnny Depp desperately mugging his way through the 'clown with facial tics' routine though, I think it may be time to put all that to rest now and try proper acting.

Misinformation

 

A series of half remembered public information films rendered alien and unsettling by an incessant soundtrack of heavy synth doom.

 

It Follows

 

Subverts the genre then transcends it. A magnificent horror movie.

 

Groundhog Day

 

I think to properly enjoy this movie you have to like the happy, clappy idiot Bill Murray transforms into by the end, whereas for some unfathomable reason I far more identify with the grouchy cunt he is at the start.

Charlotte liked it but felt that ultimately Murray's transformation didn't really matter because an old man dies, whatever the outcome, and that was sad.

 

Riki-Oh: The Story Of Ricky [Lik Wong]

 

Hyper brutal, live-action anime about a man who is sent to prison in order to punch body parts of anybody who pisses him off. Which is most people.

The Rogen/Franco partnership at its best as a mildy stressed man and an idiot who bumble about North Korea.

A nasty, sordid tale that holds no real surprises and tries to compensate by presenting everything as graphically as possible, which is no compensation at all.
